We've had a busy summer and the studio is gearing up for a hectic autumn. I'm enormously proud of our team as we have just won a major new client in University College Falmouth at a very exciting time in their development (I was a student at the then Falmouth School of Art in 1984 and it feels like yesterday!). We're also getting away from Cornwall on a regular basis and Chris reports here about a recent trip to Brighton...

Meriski
This month has seen the completion and launch of a new website for the specialist ski resort company Meriski.
Having originally produced a website some five years ago for them, we were delighted to be commissioned once again to produce an entirely new site to build on their success and reflect their status as one of the longest established companies within the ski resort of Méribel.
The brief for the website had several criteria to fulfill; as well as being clearly and attractively presented, the site needed to be able to allow a lot of information to be readily accessible and then make booking as simple as possible all within an easily navigable format.
Imaginative use of imagery was important to complement the information and bring alive the many aspects of a Meriski skiing holiday that have earned them their enviable reputation.
Another website we recently launched celebrates the wealth of gardens open to the public in Cornwall in a simple, easy to navigate format.
Each garden listed presents a series of images which scroll automatically to give an impression of what to expect while a link to Google maps makes it easy to locate and plan a route to get to it.
Simplicity was key for this project, providing a convenient starting point for anyone wishing to explore the gardens of Cornwall and then allowing them to link to the gardens' individual websites for further information.
We have been especially excited this month about winning a pitch to work with University College Falmouth on their communications strategy as they head towards full university status.
We managed to beat some stiff competition from several other design agencies and have already started work on the first piece of work for them, to design the next undergraduate prospectus for 2011.
We've come in at an exciting time for the specialist arts college as they have built an enviable reputation as one of the most desirable places to come and study both from an academic perspective and also as just a great place to be.
The college's bid for university status is underpinned by a proven track record which needs to be reflected in a clear, coherent and immediately recognisable manner across all their communications.
ICE
Falmouth based Inspired Cycle Engineering Ltd., one of the leading exponents of recumbent cycling, have asked us to rebrand the company so as to broaden its appeal as far as possible and reposition it at the forefront of its genre.
As a result of our successful pitch, we will also be designing a brand new website for ICE which will incorporate the rebrand and help the company achieve its goals.
Several of us here at Nixon spent a very fun afternoon trying out ICE’s various Trike models and can definitely see their appeal.
Flash on the Beach
Chris and Jonathan visited Brighton recently for Flash on the Beach, a three day conference dedicated to aficionados of Flash. There they rubbed shoulders with some of the world's most talented web designers, developers, creatives, film makers and artists and came back bursting with enthusiasm and ideas.
You can find out more about their experiences on the Nixon blog.
